Google is starting to roll out Quick Share to Pixel devices

Image
Google’s Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share are merging into a single file-sharing option called Quick Share. Some Google Pixel owners are now starting to see Nearby Share replaced with the new Quick Share feature. This hints that a wider release of the new Quick Share is imminent. Since the announcement at CES 2024, Samsung and Google have been preparing for the eventual launch of the new Quick Share feature. At the time, the two companies didn’t say when Android owners could expect it to arrive. But it looks like today may be the start of the rollout. Google’s Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share are similar services that allow users to transfer files quickly from one device to another. However, there are some differences, one of the most important being that Samsung’s version only worked on Galaxy devices. At CES 2024, the two companies announced Nearby Share would be rebranded to Quick Share. The new version of Quick Share adds interoperability with Nearby Share...

Google Nest now allows everyone to share responsibility for Digital Wellbeing

Image
Credit: Jimmy Westenberg / Android Authority Google is making a change to Google Nest’s Digital Wellbeing tools. Now, home members will be able to manage Digital Wellbeing filters and Downtime schedules. Google says the changes are being implemented this month. Google is about to make a nice little change to its Digital Wellbeing tools for Home and Nest devices . Soon, more users will have control over how your household’s smart devices are used. As you may be aware, Google Nest’s Digital Wellbeing tools are designed to help users set limits on how Nest or Home speakers and displays are used. There’s one drawback, however: only the person who set up the device can manage the feature. So if you’re just a home member and need to adjust a filter for some reason, but that person isn’t available, you would be out of luck. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/XISZ547

Tested: Everything you to know about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy

Image
The Samsung Galaxy S24 series sports a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor to provide blazing-fast performance for apps, games, and the phone’s new Galaxy AI features. Much like last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy that powered the Galaxy S23 range, the new phones include an “optimized” version of Qualcomm’s latest processor — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 . Unfortunately, neither Qualcomm nor Samsung has detailed the low-level specifics of those optimizations. We checked the clock speeds on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and found that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy has a higher maximum clock at 3.4GHz, up from 3.3GHz, for its big Cortex-X4 core. We couldn’t detect any other changes, the Cortex-A720 clusters offer 2.96GHz and 3.15GHz peaks, while the two small Cortex-A520 cores reach 2.26GHz. We see those same metrics on the 8 Gen 3-powered ASUS ROG Phone 8 and OPPO Find X7 Ultra I have in hand. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/67XsBZp

Where is Qi2? Not on the Galaxy S24 or OnePlus 12!

Image
Credit: Ryan Haines / Android Authority Opinion post by Rita El Khoury January saw the launch of two of 2024’s biggest flagships: the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the OnePlus 12 . The two boast the crème de la crème of Android specs, with some of the best cameras, chipsets, and displays. These will be the two Android phones to beat for many months to come and yet… something is missing in those very long spec sheets, isn’t it? There’s no Qi2 support on either of these phones. I know I keep harping about this, but hear me out one more time: Qi2 wireless charging was announced a year ago and was supposed to show up in phones last October. October came and went, and so did November, December, and January (well, almost). I know how to count months. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/ThavVOg

At this rate, we know what the Samsung Galaxy S30 will look like

Image
Credit: Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority Opinion post by Ryan Haines When was the last time you were genuinely excited about a Samsung Galaxy S design? Not a new camera sensor, not a fancy titanium frame, but the design itself. I’d argue that it probably hasn’t been since the Galaxy S21 series, maybe even the Samsung Galaxy S10, if you wanted something truly unique. Since then, Samsung’s Galaxy S flagships have begun to blend in more and more, keeping almost the same design from one year to the next. Is that a bad thing? Well, no, not really — at least not if you like the current Galaxy S24 design. Is it an exciting thing? No, it’s not that either. Instead, we could probably guess what the Samsung Galaxy S30 will look like over half a decade from now. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/nEiucyT

One of the most affordable high-end laptops on sale is the 512GB model of the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 with a 13th-gen Core i5 processor. Welcome to the 518th edition of Android Apps Weekly, where we discuss the latest in mobile news and take a closer look at some of the most interesting new apps and games . Google is partnering with Samsung because that’s the only way it can beat Apple

Image
Opinion post by Robert Triggs There was a time, not too long ago, when Google and Samsung appeared to be at loggerheads over Android. Samsung seldom mentioned Big G during its past launches, and Tizen was intermittently dangled as a breakaway “threat” to the whole Android ecosystem. In a nutshell, these mobile tech titans haven’t always seen eye to eye. Fast forward to the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch , and you’d be forgiven for thinking the biggest names in the Android space had always been the best of friends. Peel back the branding on the latest Galaxy AI features , and you’ll find Google technology behind some of them. In fact, Samsung even had Googlers up on stage to talk about not just the latest Galaxy S24 but features like Circle to Search, improvements to Messages, and others, that are heading to the Pixel 8 series too. Not forgetting broader initiatives like Gemini Nano that will bring Google’s AI features to even more Android handsets in the near future. from And...

A new color is coming for the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

Image
Credit: Google A new countdown timer at the Google Store shows a new Google Pixel 8 Mint colorway is coming. According to the timer, the colorway should be available on January 24 at 12:01 AM PT. It is unclear if the phone will be the same price as other colors, but we expect it will be. When Google launched the Pixel 8 series , it landed in five colorways: Obsidian, Hazel, Bay, Rose, and Porcelain. Now, it looks like a new Google Pixel 8 Mint colorway is coming soon. Over at the Google Store , there’s a new countdown timer to something “minty fresh.” The URL ends with pixel-mint , strongly suggesting the name of the color is Mint. OnePlus Watch 2 could make its debut at Mobile World Congress 2024

The OnePlus Watch 2 will be OnePlus’s first Wear OS smartwatch. In only a few days, OnePlus will be launching the OnePlus 12 globally. You might think this event would also be a great time to launch the OnePlus Watch 2, but it appears that won’t be the case.
