5 best SEGA Mega Drive, and SEGA CD, and SEGA Genesis emulators for Android

One of gaming’s first big rivalries was between the SEGA Genesis and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). If you’re aching for some nostalgia and the Genesis is your flavor of choice, we think you’ll enjoy the best SEGA Genesis emulators for Android! The best Nintendo 3DS emulators for PC and Mac

The Nintendo 3DS was a super popular console. It sold over 75 million units during its run and was home to some iconic titles. Those include several Pokemon games, the Etrian Odyssey series, Kid Icarus, Radiant Historia, and various Mario, Zelda, and Kirby games. The handheld system was discontinued in September 2020, and the Nintendo eShop closed in March 2023. Thus, emulation is the only way to enjoy some of these old favorites. To that end, here are the best Nintendo 3DS emulators for PC and Mac. Before we start, it’s worth pointing out that we have excluded a few options from our list due to a lack of active development or untrustworthy development practices. As of writing, there are only two good Nintendo 3DS emulators on PC and Mac. Even then, RetroArch uses a Citra Emulator core, so at the end of the day, performance is identical on both. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/V3oynRZ

Finally! Your phone will now let you know when your Pixel Watch is fully charged

Image
Credit: Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority Google has answered everyone’s prayers and given us a Pixel Watch fully charged notification. Your phone will now tell you when your Pixel Watch has reached 100%. We know it works on a Pixel Watch 2, but are unsure about the original Pixel Watch. At the beginning of the month, we saw a rumor that the Pixel Watch could get a long-demanded feature: a notification indicating it has fully charged. Now, we are seeing that feature live, with our own Pixel Watch 2 having it starting today. In the screenshot below, you can see how it works. When your Pixel Watch becomes fully charged, your phone will give you a notification to let you know. This enables you to leave it on the charger but not forget to put it back on when the charge is complete. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/zWby1Fl

Google Assistant’s ‘animal of the day’ is no more

Image
Credit: Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority Google Assistant’s “animal of the day”command is no longer available. Google put an end to the command on November 27, 2023. Users can still ask questions about animals. Google Assistant has numerous helpful and interesting commands you can use to do things like control your smart home, shop, or get the information you’re looking for. But unfortunately, it lost one of its more popular commands for animal enthusiasts yesterday. Just like its name suggests, animal of the day is a Google Assistant command that picks an animal for that day and provides you with information about that animal and a picture. The feature worked on phones, as well as smart displays for both Android and iOS. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/uYbsx5P

T-Mobile Tuesdays used to be fantastic, but this year has been pretty weak

Image
Credit: Kris Carlon / Android Authority Opinion post by C. Scott Brown In 2016, T-Mobile’s then-CEO John Legere announced a new feature for subscribers: T-Mobile Tuesdays. Each week, subscribers could get a special freebie, discount, or deal. The company rolled out a special app for this, which alerts you every Tuesday when the new promotion is live. In the first few years of its existence, the Tuesdays program was awesome. There were free gift cards for popular eateries at a $5 value, including Starbucks and Dunkin’. You could also often get totally free movie tickets. And, of course, we can’t forget the free Domino’s pizza weeks, which probably caused many Domino’s employees to quit their jobs due to the overwhelming demand. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/XlVdftM

Google’s killer Black Friday sale includes the Pixel 8 for $549, and much more

Google’s Black Friday sale is one of the holiday season’s premier events in our eyes. Most of the flagship devices from the US brand are subject to significant discounts, including the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro , the Pixel Watch, and much more. As deals go, it’s tough to look past the discount on the Google Pixel 8. Usually retailing for almost $700, the $150 discount on the Android phone reduces it to just $549 . The savings are even bigger on its larger sibling, the Pixel 8 Pro, which is down from $999 to $799. Both price drops are easily the best that we’ve tracked on the devices since they hit the market last month. You can also score $400 off the Pixel Fold , slashing the asking price to just $1,399 for the base model. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/JgieQW1

This is why I moved from Google Podcasts and PocketCasts to Spotify

Image
Credit: Rita El Khoury / Android Authority Opinion post by Dhruv Bhutani I was an early adopter of podcasts, and some of my earliest subscriptions go way back to 2005, when I got my first iPod. While my love affair with iTunes and iPods continued much longer, I switched to Pocket Casts on Android somewhere around 2012. The ability to grab podcasts on the go, easily find new shows, store them offline, or stream them over Wi-Fi — it was all a no-brainer. It helped that the app avoided feature creep while adding all the essentials like jumping forward or back or skipping silent sections, which earned it a lot of love in the Android community and a spot on our 15 best Android apps list. Pocket Casts was my constant companion throughout university and my long daily commute. Fast forward a couple of years, though, and I started gravitating towards Google Podcasts as my podcast client of choice. My usage patterns had shifted; I was spending a lot more time on my desk, and I ne...

The Apple Watch’s double tap feature is both fun and useful

Image
The Apple Watch is one of the most intuitive and user-friendly wearables I’ve used. And thanks to the new Double Tap gesture control, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 are more accessible than ever. The feature is simple to learn and surprisingly handy in a pinch (pun not intended). Before anyone gets exasperated, yes, Apple’s existing smartwatches already offer a series of similar gesture controls. These tools are buried in each device’s Accessibility menu. The difference with Double Tap is that the new feature is integrated into the base-level user experience. A GaN charger was my best tech purchase of 2023

Image
Credit: Calvin Wankhede / Android Authority Say what you will about the haphazard state of USB-C , you’ll still be hard-pressed to deny that it has simplified charging massively. That said, USB-C’s growing presence hasn’t stopped brands from shipping devices with underpowered or bulky power bricks. So until quite recently, I carried around multiple adapters even though all of my devices used USB-C. Thankfully, all of that changed when I stumbled upon GaN chargers — palm-sized adapters that deliver blisteringly fast charging speeds. It’s been less than a year since I made the switch, but I’m already convinced that it’s the best $35 anyone can spend. Does the iPhone 15 keep up with the best Android alternatives?

Image
On paper, there’s very little reason to get excited about Apple’s iPhone 15 . It has a chipset we’ve seen before, a design that hasn’t changed in years, and cameras that cover the basics but don’t really reach for the stars. And yet, it’s probably going to be one of the most popular phones over the next 12 months. As a reviewer for Android Authority , I’ve spent plenty of time with the best of Android, but I’m also very familiar with what Apple has to offer on the iOS side. After all, you have to know what the competition is doing to know what you’re talking about. And I have a few ideas of why the iPhone’s popularity endures, so let’s look at how the iPhone 15 actually fares against its best Android rivals . For our purposes, we’re only worried about the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, along with their similarly priced competitors. That means we’ll look at the Samsung Galaxy S23, OnePlus 11, Google Pixel 8, and Motorola Edge Plus (2023) as our Android baseline and skip the Pro-...

The best Plex alternative in 2023 is Jellyfin, and you really should try it

Image
Credit: Robert Triggs / Android Authority Self-hosting is an increasingly popular alternative for those looking to escape the convoluted (and expensive) content-streaming landscape and return to a more traditional personal ownership approach to their media collection. Once you’ve bought your fancy new Network Attached Storage (NAS) and filled it with your favorite movies, the next step is to figure out what software to run on it. There are at least two solid options for serving up your media collection; it’s a choice of Jellyfin vs Plex. Plex is the big name in town, but installing it didn’t cross my mind after recently rebuilding my DIY NAS . I’ve never been keen on Plex’s increasing insistence on serving up third-party content, and the all too real risk of compromised user data (as the recent data leak showed) doesn’t gel with the true self-hosted ethos. I’m not alone in looking for a solid Plex alternative. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/stXr9yD

No one is talking about how awesome the Pixel Buds Pro have become

Image
Credit: Rita El Khoury / Android Authority When I buy a piece of tech, I like knowing that it’ll get updated with more features over time. It’s not always a guarantee, but it’s one of those awesome perks of today’s tech scene. There’s a difference though between small updates that change one or two things, and major changes that completely revamp your experience of a product. And I think the Pixel Buds Pro fall on the second part of that scale. Since they were released in July 2022, the Pixel Buds Pro have received several big updates and new features. Some, like the custom equalizer, should’ve been there from the start, while others like the hearing wellness dashboard, are nice extras. On the social platform X (formerly Twitter), tipster Arsene Lupin shared a render of the XCover 7.
