Apple suffers setback as GM plans to phase out Apple CarPlay with Google’s help

Image
Credit: Apple General Motors and Google are working on designing onboard navigation and infotainment systems for future GM electric vehicles. Future GM EVs will no longer offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will still be offered on GM’s combustion vehicles. And it looks like Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto will play a part in that future. As reported by Reuters , GM is planning to halt support of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its future EVs. Instead, the automaker will design onboard navigation and infotainment systems with the help of Google. This change is expected to start with the launch of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/Kr2UlEV

Facebook is finally letting users opt out of tracking, but there’s a catch

Image
Users will be able to opt out of Facebook and Instagram user-tracking, but only in the EU. The reason is due to the EU regulators forcing Meta’s hand. Meta is reportedly making it difficult for users to opt-out. The day has finally come, Meta is allowing users to opt out of tracking on its platforms. But before you get too excited, there are some caveats to be aware of. After being fined multiple times by European Union (EU) regulators for a total of over $400 million, Meta is making a change to its tracking practices. Change my mind: Apple has the best smart home platform (at least for now)

Image
Credit: Roger Fingas / Android Authority Opinion post by Roger Fingas When my family and I moved into a new home last year, I took it as an opportunity to steer us towards a primary smart home platform. Yes, as Android Authority ‘s resident smart home guru, I need to have gear to test all the major ecosystems — it’s just that life is easier if there’s one you can count on for everyday tasks like turning the lights on. Until recently, I’d been leaning towards Amazon Alexa as my platform of choice. It’s still the best-supported one out there in terms of smart speakers , accessories, and music services. And top of that, it doesn’t play favorites between Android or iOS. Even Google Home naturally favors Android, though it is perfectly usable with iOS. from Android Authority https://ift.tt/uydgiNX

5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week – Android Apps Weekly

Image
Welcome to the 477th edition of Android Apps Weekly . Here are the big headlines from the last week: Google Messages has a new feature in the beta version . It lets AI come up with responses to messages you receive. It was found in an APK teardown, and the feature isn’t active yet. However, with the massive surge in AI news this year, we expect it to be an extension of Smart Reply, but with AI. Google Calendar is apparently adding better support for birthdays and anniversaries soon. The app lets you add those things now, but with basic reminders that don’t do much. This new feature lets you add additional, customizable reminders. It’s a small thing, but considering that Facebook hasn’t notified me of a birthday in years, this will be nice to have. Microsoft’s AI now creates images using only words . Microsoft calls it the Bing Image Creator, and it’s accessible through bing.com/create . You simply tell it what you want to see, and the AI creates it. There are some limitations. For...

Google Messages may soon let you use AI to respond to text messages

Image
Credit: Jimmy Westenberg / Android Authority A new feature was discovered in the beta version of Google Messages. The feature is believed to be an AI generation tool that will come up with responses to the text messages you receive. It’s possible Google could be planning to replace Smart Reply with this tool.
